Conditions of Play

Entry Form

The (47^th) Bahrain Open Golf Championship will be played at the Awali Golf Course on March 5^th and 6^th 2010 by courtesy of the Bahrain Petroleum Company B.S.C. (closed).

The Championship will be contested over 36 holes, the first 18 to be played on Friday 5th March and the final 18 holes on Saturday 6th March 2010.

1.      ENTRIES

1.1.      All entries will be made on the official entry form provided or via the website form,  and must be received no later than Thursday 25^th February 2010. Further official entry forms can be found on the Awali Golf Club website www.awaligolfclub.com

1.2.      The Open(s) Committee reserves the right to limit the number of entrants. If the Committee so decides, the field will be reduced by ballot, beginning with the highest playing handicaps on the closing date for entries. Clubs will be informed of any such rejections as soon as possible.

1.3.      In the event that a competitor withdraws from the competition, that players Club may replace them with any player rejected as a result of the ballot, provided that this is done before close of registration on their allocated registration day. 

2.      QUALIFICATIONS

2.1.      The (47^th) Bahrain Open Golf Championship is open to both Professional and Amateur players.

2.2.      A player’s certified playing handicap must not exceed 9 on the closing date for entries, Thursday 25^th February 2010.

3.      RULES

3.1.      The Championship will be played in accordance with the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and the standing rules of Awali Golf Club.

3.2.      The local rules of Awali Golf Club are printed on the competition scorecards. Any additional or temporary local rules that come into force at the time of the Championship will be clearly defined and posted within the Clubhouse.

3.3.      A Championship Committee approved artificial grass mat, may be used, but only on the fairway, or teeing ground, of the hole in play.

3.3.1.     In accordance with Awali Golf Club local rules only 12-inch diameter round mats are permitted.

3.3.2.     Mats may be backed but no protuberances are allowed on the backing.

3.3.3.     Approved mats are available at Awali Golf Club. 

3.4.      Competitors are required to wear smooth soled shoes on the course, heavily ribbed or patterned soles are not permitted.

3.5.      In the event of a suspension of play, Competitors should halt without completing the hole in play, in order to protect the putting greens. 

4.      PLAY
Stroke play over 36 holes. Play will be in 3-ball format unless otherwise decided by the Championship Committee. On all matters of competition play, the decision of the referees appointed by the Championship Committee will be final. 

5.      DRAW

5.1.      The draw for the first 18 holes will be made by lottery except that visitors will, where possible, will be drawn with a member of Awali Golf Club.

5.2.      The draw for the second day of play will be seeded. The Championship Committee reserves the right to decide the order of play, depending on numbers involved. The order will be decided on the first days scores, highest teeing off first, lowest last. 

6.     REGISTRATION
All overseas competitors are required to register at the Clubhouse on Thursday 4^th March 2010 between 1300 and 1800 hrs. All Bahrain based competitors are required to register at the Clubhouse on Wednesday 3rd March 2010 between the same times.  Anyone unable to attend by 1800 hrs on their respective day must, in the first instance inform the Championship Committee before their expected arrival in order to maintain a place in the draw. Players from overseas who will not be in the Clubhouse at the time of  the draw are requested to leave a contact telephone number with the registration officials. 

7.     STARTING TIMES
Starting times will be decided by the Championship Committee and will be displayed in the Clubhouse at 1900 hrs on Thursday 4^th March 2010. All players must report to the starter at least 15 minutes prior to their starting time. The Championship Committee retains the right to disqualify any player not present when their name is called. 

8.     PRACTICE
All competitors may practice on the Awali Golf Course from 1230 hrs Thursday 4^th March 2010 observing normal etiquette. This facility is not extended to non-competitors. Practice will not be permitted on Awali Golf Course during Friday 5^th or Saturday 6^th March 2010.

9.     PRIZES
The 47^th  Bahrain Open Champion will be deemed to be the player returning the lowest gross score over the 36 holes of Championship play. In addition to their prize the Open Champion will receive the Bahrain Open Trophy (to be retained at Awali Golf Club) and a replica of the Trophy to keep. Prizes will also be awarded to the runners up of the main Competition. Prizes will also be awarded to the player and runner up with the best gross, outside of the main Competition, on both days. A hole in one prize may also be awarded. Professional Competitors will be eligible to win cash prizes.

10. TIES
In the event of a tie for first place after 36 holes, the Championship will be decided by a sudden death play off on the 18^th hole.  This will be repeated until a Champion is determined.  Other ties will be decided by count back on the last 18, last 9, last 6, last 3, last 2, or last hole as necessary.

11.  AMENDMENTS
The Awali Golf Club Championship Committee reserves the right to amend these conditions as necessary. A copy of these conditions of play and other information about the Bahrain Open Golf Championship are available on the Awali Golf Club website www.awaligolfclub.com

1800                               Closing date for ALL entries.

 Wednesday 3^rd March 2010
1200 – 1800 hrs              Competitor Registration in Clubhouse
                                      (Bahrain based competitors).

Thursday 4^th March 2010
0730 – 1230                    Sponsors Corporate Day Tournament, Corporate teams of 4 including one Professional or top Amateur over 18 holes with a shotgun start. Luncheon and presentation to take place in The Awali Golf Club Marquee.

1230 – 1800                    Course open for competitors’ practice.

1300 – 1800 hrs              Competitor Registration in Clubhouse
                                      (Overseas competitors). 
1800 – 2030 hrs              Welcome Reception in the Clubhouse.

1900 hrs approx             Publication and display of the final draw for the first day of play.

Friday 5^th March 2010
0700 – Close                  47th Bahrain Open Championship – First round.

1900 hrs                         Presentation of Raffle Prizes and Championship function.

Copies of the first day’s results and the draw for the final round will be available at the function.

Saturday 6^th March 2010
0700 – 1600 hrs app ---- 47th Bahrain Open Championship – Final round
