Competitions - background – Ma’a Salama Cup

Bill Scarth and his partner Nicki Park joined AGC in 2012 and left to retirement in France in December 2017.

Bill served on the main Committee over four seasons, two of which were consecutively as Captain. He is remembered as being a confident orator at competition prize presentations, and his ability also extended to AGC oriented poetry and songs. He introduced several innovations, including bring-your-own barbecue after ball-sweeps and the revival of a New Year’s Eve party at the Clubhouse. Nicki Park was also a busy person behind the scenes, most noticeably in the coordination of the Dinner Ladies.

Perhaps one of the most memorable moments of Bill’s tenure was, at the Annual Dinner Dance in June 2017, Bill, with microphone in hand so that all present could share the moment, proposed to Nicki.

Bill, beyond his sponsorship of the Captain’s Prize, also contributed to the sponsorship of the 2016/17 season Thank Friday Its Golf competition. As a last hoorah, Bill and Nicki sponsored the Ma’a Salama Cup in December 2017.
