Competitions - background – Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Fares Al Khalifa Cup

Sheikh Abdul Rahman was a member of the Club for a few years, and became Bahrain's ambassador to the USA and the UK for some time. He died unexpectedly in the mid-90s. To commemorate him, his family sponsored the Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Fares Al Khalifa Cup in the 2015/16 season, with the late Sheikh’s son, Sheikh Feras bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa, presenting the prizes. The competition ran for three seasons, the 2017/18 season being its last.

The main prizes were awarded for gross play, whilst prizes for net play are also awarded. Additionally, the sponsors typically invited a few players who are not members of Awali Golf Club.
